Since 2005, EPIM has invested approximately 3.5 million euros on migration and integration issues on the EU level. Recognising that the successful integration of all migrant groups is central to the future of Europe, the EPIM Steering Committee has identified 3 priority areas for funding, based on an assessment of under-valued, yet critical, aspects of this issue. The priorities were also selected on the basis that it is more difficult for NGOs to find funding from other sources to work on these issues because of the relative risk and controversy involved.
The grants in the 2008-2011 phase were made available for short and longer projects (up to 3 years) in 3 focus areas:
• Undocumented migrants: Access to fundamental rights, services and justice for undocumented migrants
• Migrants’ Voices: Mainstreaming migrants’ voices to involve them in developing and implementing policy as active participants in the governance process and/or public life and/or public realm.
• Media: Strategic use of the media and communications to encourage integration recognising the role of the host community in encouraging and supporting integration.
